And so, we have the paradox of current time, in which the value of individualism is emphasized, even though it is clear that without a sense of community, individualism cannot develop.
The common good is discarded, and the individual is exalted.
Once again, within this unity, there is competitive duality, a struggle between sectors, trends, opinions, and interests.
While some people saw their economic development stifled by the war in Iran, regarding the Strait of Hormuz, others became very rich.
The list of examples could go on and on.
But there is one that could be particularly significant or striking from a humanist point of view: approximately 13 billion –dollars or euros- are needed to alleviate, to quell world hunger, as things stand today; that is all. But well…
That represents less than 1% of global military spending. And if you push me, less than 1% of NATO's military spending.
This significant duality, which, in the name of freedom, seeks security by arming itself while neglecting daily hunger, it does not seem befitting of an intelligent species.
Another curious paradox is that FIFA's profit from the last World Cup, amounted to precisely 13 billion, with an economic turnover of between 40 to 60 billion.
These may seem like cold and distant figures, but even when we introduce variables and diverse opinions, the differences remain more or less the same.
Do we lack solidarity genes? Because this process isn't new; it has been developing for years.
Do we by nature, lack solidarity?
This contradicts the theory of evolution, in which cellular beings group together to create new structures and become viable as individuals, based on the combination and sharing of their gifts and qualities.
So, we could say that, right up until we reach the point of "defining" –in invert comas- the different species, all of this has been achieved based on a shared and collaborative investment of resources among different possibilities.
But it would seem, if that theory is true, that this resource –which remains, and thanks to which species remain, and surely continue their evolution, albeit over billions of years-… it seems that this sense of solidarity has been forgotten.
Although –strikingly- when catastrophe appears, initially there is nothing but solidarity and aid for recovery.
But if the catastrophe is caused by conflict –i.e. “war”- then each side defends its position and destroys the other, or others.
The Call to Prayer touches us. It calls us to incorporate that solidary presence of Providence that allows the oneness of our being, the oneness of all beings, and the communion amongst them all, thanks to which each individual or group of individuals can carry on, continue, remain…
And may that criterion, this updating, inspire us to act, to think, to feel in connection with my entire surroundings: from the footprints on the ground to the clouds in the sky, everything becomes essential to me.
To discover that we are indispensable and necessary; that, under this dimension, the Call to Prayer places us as a universal offering.
If we offer ourselves universally, we feel connected, united with all living things; we preserve what already exists and encourage the possibilities of new perspectives, of new configurations.
As we listen to the fresh air rising from the depths of our planet's heat, we can recognize –and we must do so under any circumstances- the connivance, coexistence, sharing, communion, and willingness of all living things, whatever their form, to serve, to be useful.
Yes. Undoubtedly, intelligence has played a role in this example, as in any other. It is part of our attributes and a substantial part of the capacity to obtain, develop, and cultivate resources. That is why this duality is all the more serious because it runs counter to intelligent purpose; that, as it equips itself… –the intelligent sense- as it equips itself with resources, it expands its capabilities.
Yes. Today, civilized human beings could be categorized as "supreme selfish": each one, each being, seeks their own security, their own resources, their own means, their own property, their own profit, their own sustenance.
It might seem to be a survival instinct, when in reality, survival lies in the community of the species, which seeks to organize and reorganize itself in order to endure.
It's as if we were trying to drain the oceans to have more fertile land, whilst forgetting that, thanks to the oceans, we maintain a balance in our waters, our breathing… and so on. So, the tendency should be to look after them, even though they don't specifically need us. But we cannot, through our individual attitude, lay claim to the sea and its spaces –continuing with the example- in order to exploit its resources as private and individual.
When we realize that we are the product of a Provident Provider Mystery, which has made us grow, speak, think… without whose stimuli we wouldn't have become the demanding, critical, and dramatic egomaniacs we are, we can think about restructuring, reconvert ourselves, –not just transforming, but “reconvert” ourselves- into beings of unity with a tendency to innovate, with decisions toward the new.
Each time we act as "persons", let us introduce the innate, compassionate, and unified awakening of our being, in its entirety.
To feel, see, and perceive, like a flash of lightning, each action: like a flash of light that extends beyond our action and our realisation.
This personal "testimony", which transcends to the universal, places us in a new and continuous process of discovery, a new and continuous dawn, since it is no longer confined to "my personal account", but is instead drawn into universal life; which I may not be able to define or make concrete, but I can perceive it, I can become aware of its dimensions.
To extinguish fears; to quell anger; to dissolve prejudices; to embark on the adventure of discovery; to dare to embrace the novelty of creativity; to become worthy of being an artist… of everyday life.
